The Bayelsa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has said that former President Goodluck Jonathan has not officially defected to the All Progressives Congress.
The state APC chairman, Dennis Otiotio, made the clarification while reacting to media reports that Jonathan had formally defected from the Peoples Democratic to the APC to contest the 2023 presidential election.
Otiotio said on the telephone on Thursday that Jonathan can only register under the platform of the APC to contest for the Presidency if he is given a waiver by the national leadership of the Party.
The APC State Chairman said that he was not aware if such a waiver had Vern extended to Jonathan by the Abdulahi Adamu led APC national working committee.
“I think the person you people should be asking the question is the national chairman of the party. He should be the one to grant him (Jonathan) waiver.
“As of now, he has not officially joined our party. Ask the national chairman if he has granted him waiver.” He said
The APC Chairman was enthusiastic about the prospect of having Jonathan in the Party describing him as an elder statesman.
