News Investigators/ NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte said on Friday that de-escalating the situation in the Middle East is now a top priority, following Israel’s large-scale airstrikes on Iranian territory.
“This was a unilateral action by Israel. So I think it is now crucial for many allies, including the United States, to work, as we speak, to de-escalate,” Mr. Rutte stated.
He made the comment during a press conference with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in Stockholm.
“I know they are doing that, and I think that is now the first order of the day.
“In response to a question about the risk of nuclear war or a global conflict, Rutte reassured: “No, we are not close,” he added.
Overnight, Israel launched a major attack on Iranian cities and nuclear facilities. In retaliation, Iran reportedly fired about 100 drones, which Israel claimed were intercepted and shot down.
Kristersson warned that the exchange of fire risked further destabilising an already volatile region. NAN
