The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Tuesday, declared Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri as the winner of the Adamawa State gubernatorial election.

The electoral body had resumed the collation of the Adamawa State Governorship election results on Tuesday after it suspended it following the crisis caused by the infamous declaration of the APC Candidate, Aisha Dahiru, as the winner of the

the election before the end of collation.

INEC had since dismissed the declaration and has now resumed the process at the Collation Centre in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

At the resumed collation of results INEC announced Fintiri, the incumbent Governor of Adamawa State and candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the winner after scoring 430,861 votes in total.

He had polled the highest number of votes in the supplementary election with 9,337 out of about 16,000 votes cast.

Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) popularly called Binani, polled 398,788 votes in total. Binani managed 6,514 votes in the supplementary election.

This was the third time INEC officials collated Adamawa gubernatorial election results.

INEC had declared the Adamawa State election inconclusive due to the margin of votes between the leading candidates on March 20.

“Elections were not held in 47 wards, affecting 69 polling units. So, this gives us a margin of 31,249. The total number of PVCs collected in places where elections were not held amounted to 37,016,” Muhammad Mele, INEC’s returning officer in the state, had said.

INEC rejected the declaration of Binani as the Adamawa State governor-elect in an inconclusive collation process on Sunday.

Fintiri will receive a certificate of return in the coming days.

Meanwhile, INEC has asked the Inspector-General of Police to investigate Hudu Yunusa Ari, the Adamawa Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) who declared Binani winner on Sunday.
