News Investigators/ The Ikorodu Local Government Area (LGA) in Lagos State has distributed 100 free General Certificate of Examination (GCE) forms to indigent students of the area.
The distribution was held at the LGA secretariat on Wednesday.
The council Chairman, Adedayo Ladega, represented by the Vice Chairman, Mr Babawale Alogba, said every child deserved a chance to be educated.
“We are here for more than just the distribution of GCE forms.
“We are here to reaffirm our collective belief that every child deserves a chance, and that education must never be a privilege for a few, but a right for all,” he said.
Mr Ladega said that the initiative was not a one-off gesture, but part of a broader commitment to the growth of young people and progress of the LGA.
According to him, it aligns with his administration’s Security, Education, Enhanced Healthcare, and Development Agenda, which stands for a vision built on giving people the tools and opportunities to live more productive lives.
“Education, which is the second pillar of that agenda, remains one of the most powerful drivers of change.
“When we invest in the minds of our youths, we are not just helping them individually, but we are shaping the future of Ikorodu,” he said.
The chairman urged the beneficiaries to study with purpose, believe in their potential, and rise to the occasion.
He added that they were the future leaders, innovators, and professionals, who would build Ikorodu division.
Mr Ladega commended parents and guardians, describing them as “being the silent backbone of their children’s dreams”.
He also appreciated stakeholders for their support, saying, “I know it is not always easy, but your sacrifices do not go unnoticed.”
One of the beneficiaries, who spoke on behalf of the students, Miss Saidat Shokunbi, expressed gratitude to the chairman and promised to make their parents proud by achieving good grades.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the beneficiaries were selected through online process.
