ICAN Inaugurates Yahaya As 61st President

News Investigators/ The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) on Tuesday inaugurated Haruna Yahaya, as its 61st President.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the hybrid investiture convened in Lagos has governors, federal lawmakers, traditional rulers and accounting and financial associations from various countries in attendance.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Yahaya pledged commitment to transparency, integrity and discipline, which offered hope for the nation.

He thanked past presidents for laying enduring foundations with uncommon foresight, convictions, and sacrifice for progress of the institute.

He said the 61st presidential year coincided with the celebration of ICAN Diamond Jubilee of 60 extraordinary years of institutional excellence, ethical steadfastness, and national relevance.

He explained the important role of ICAN to human capital development, molding generations of professionals defined by integrity, skill and courage.

Mr Yahaya, who took his oath of office during the investiture, unveiled the theme of his presidential year as: “ICAN at 60, powering a new era of integrity and innovation”.

He explained that his administration’s 10 points agenda included digital transformation, youth empowerment, capacity building, education, among others.

“During this presidential year, we are embarking on a bold and forward-looking journey to fully digitalize ICAN examination process.

“This transformation will be executed in the carefully designed phases beginning from November 9, 2025,” he said.

He said his reign would reposition the institute locally and globally.

He appreciated the love and support of his friends, family and associates for the person he turned out to be rising from a humble graduate of Geography who transitioned into the accounting profession.

Davidson Alaribe, the immediate past president, while delivering his valedictory speech, said his closely knitted working relationship with Yahaya he his administration.

Mr Alaribe, while reeling out achievements of his administration, said that he was the first to leave documented handover notes behind urging his successor to carry the legacy on.

He also explained the importance of collaboration, which made him achieve so much with Yahaya, who was his former deputy, urging him to imbibe and continue the tradition.

The traditional ruler of Nupe Kingdom, Yahaya Abubakar, who attended the investiture,congratulated the new ICAN leadership while praying Allah’s guidance and wisdom for them.

Etsu Abubakar, who is also the Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, where HYahaya comes from, pledged support of the royal kingdom to Haruna’s administration.

The Etsu Nupe, who spoke on behalf of other traditional rulers from Lagos and other states, thanked ICAN for its contributions to national development.
