HUMAN RIGHTS LAWYER JAILED BY AKWA IBOM CHIEF JUDGE REGAINS FREEDOM AFTER SERVING TERM

Human Rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, has been released after one month of incarceration in Uyo Correctional Centre, Akwa Ibom State, the capital.

He was set free on Friday, after completing his 30 days sentence by the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, High Court, who convicted him on an unknown offense for 30 days in custody.

Recall that Effiong was ordered to prison by Justice Ekaette Obot after the lawyer reportedly protested against the presence of armed policemen in court.

Effiong was Counsel to one Leo Ekpenyong, a lawyer, in a libel suit filed by Udom Emmanuel, Governor of Akwa Ibom State.
