Gunmen on Wednesday night shot dead the Labour Party candidate for Enugu East senatorial district in Saturday’s election, Mr. Oyibo Chukwu.

Besides Chukwu, all the five occupants of the car in which he was travelling with were also killed by the gunmen.

Sadly, Mr. Chukwu and the five others who were his supporters were set ablaze to burn in the same vehicle by their killers 

The incident took place on Wednesday evening   at Amechi, Awkunanaw Local Government Area of Enugu state on his way back from a political rally.

In his reaction to the incident, the gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party in the state, Chijioke Edeoga, who also confirmed it to newsmen, said his party members are long being targeted for assassination by political parties which felt threatened by the rise of the Labour Party in the state.

The Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, who is one of the popular and frontline  candidates for the general election, hails from the South East.

Unknown gunmen in the Southeast  have been on rampage in the area.

The armed group have vowed to stop the election in the region, a development security agencies vowed  to nip in the bud and urged the people to disregard it.

The Enugu LP guber candidate, Edeoga insists that Chukwu’s killing was politically motivated.

 The State Police command is yet to reaction on the development
