News Investigators/ The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV), has applauded the receipt of 255 tractors by the Federal Government.
This is contained in a statement, by Chukwudi Enekwechi, its Chairman, and made available to news men in Abuja on Tuesday.
Mr Enekwechi noted that it was a positive development to signpost the President Bola Tinubu administration’s Greener Hope National Agricultural Mechanisation Programme (GHAPP).
“We note with joy that out of the 2000 tractors, the Federal Government signed an agreement with a private firm for, 255 have been delivered, signposting the realisation of the federal government’s agricultural mechanisation programme.
“In the same vein, we note that the plan of the Tinubu administration to reorganise and recapitalise the Bank of Agriculture is the beginning of the much-expected revolution in the agriculture sector.
“We believe that with these twin policies, the long-awaited transformation of the sector into a more business-like, mechanised sector is already taking shape,” he said.
Mr Enekwechi noted that the conscious effort by the Federal Government to elevate agriculture from subsistence level to a mechanised and business-focused sector would, in due course, guarantee food security in the country.
“We wish to state that for the first time, there is a deliberate policy by the Federal Government to refocus the citizens’ attention to agriculture by introducing modernity in the area of farm implements, and financing.
“This is the only way to attract the interest of the youths to participate in the agricultural sector.
“Furthermore, the policy will reduce food inflation, increase food production, and save Nigeria the foreign currency being expended on food importation,” he also said.
The TMV chairman added that the increased tempo of activities in the sector would also create job opportunities for Nigerians, mostly youths.
He therefore enjoined Nigerians, to key into the agricultural policies of the Tinubu administration to make food abundant for all Nigerians.
