News Investigators/ Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, on Friday assigned portfolios to newly inaugurated commissioners, describing it as another strategic step towards strengthening the state governance structure.
He said Lawal Mohammed Maikano was appointed Commissioner for Finance, while Nasiru Mu’azu takes charge of the Ministry of Justice.
Kabiru Abbas will oversee the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure while the Ministry of Investments was assigned to Aminu Takuma and Mustapha Ndajiwo was deployed to the Ministry of Budget and Planning.
Mr Bago said the Ministry of Mineral Resources will be headed by Mohammed Danjuma, while Abdulrazak Muazu was named Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs.
He said Abubakar Musa was assigned to manage the Ministry of Environment, and Abdullahi Maje takes responsibility for the Ministry of Transportation, while the Ministry of Information and Orientation was handed to Obed Nana.
Similarly, Dr Murtala Bagana will supervise the Ministry of Health, Hadiza Idris-Kuta was appointed Commissioner for Women Affairs, while the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs goes to Muazu Jantabo.
The governor said Faruq Audi will lead the Ministry for Water Resources and Irrigation, and Abdullahi Mammagi assumes duty as Commissioner for Livestock and Aquaculture.
Mr Bago also assigned Isah Rijau to the Ministry of Agriculture, while Prof. Muhammad Auna takes charge of the Ministry of Tertiary Education.
He said the Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education will be overseen by Dr Hadiza Muhammad.
He added that the Ministry for Lands was assigned to Bello Agwara, while Abubakar Abule now heads the Ministry of Sports Development.
Additionally, Umar Sanda Rabe was appointed Commissioner for Pastoral and Nomadic Affairs while the Ministry for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management will be led by Ahmed Inga.
He said Haruna Magaji takes charge of the Ministry for Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, while the Ministry for Homeland Security was assigned to Mr Maurice Magaji.
The governor added that Suleiman Umar will oversee the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy while Muhammad Lokogoma was placed in charge of the Ministry of Rural Development.
Mr Bago said Phalal Bako now heads the Ministry for Housing and Urban Development and Jacob Yisa was named Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, and Ladidi Bosso was deployed to the Ministry of Arts and Culture.
The governor also appointed Abdullahi Katcha to lead the Ministry of Technology and Vocational Education.
Mr Bago urged the commissioners to work closely with their Permanent Secretaries, Heads of Agencies and other key stakeholders to deliver impactful results.
He appealed to residents to support the new appointees as they advance the New Niger Vision.
