A yet to be identified gunboat has crushed four policemen on patrol duty and officials of an oil surveillance company, Darlon Security Surveillance Services, to death in Bayelsa State.
Among the dead are a younger brother of the former Gubernatorial Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Chief David Lyon identified as Odi Lyon.
Odi Lyon was said to be the operations Manager of Darlon Oil Surveillance company in Southern Ijaw community of Olugbobiri.
The unfortunate incident took place at Okumugbene and Odewari River close to Korokorosei junction.
A source said that the boat was heading towards Korokorosei when the incident happened.
The Network gathered that another aide to Chief David Lyon identified as Ogbojimo was lucky to have survived the unfortunate incident.
As at the time of filing this report, one of the corpses of the killed police men, has been recovered while the three riot policemen are missing.
The recovered policeman was able to swim to the shore but died sadly before he could get to the clinic at Olugbobiri.
A source told the Network that the incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday around 1:30 AM.
The boat conveying the four mobile policemen, the younger brother of David Lyon, a Governor’s aide with a 200 horsepower engine was said to stopped for a yet to be ascertained reason when the gun boat was driven into them.
The Network could not verify claims that the gunboat mistook the occupants of the boat for pirates disturbing the Area.
When the Network contacted the Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Command, Mr Asinim Butswat, he confirmed the boat incident but did not give any further details.
