Jibrin was forced to step down by the seemingly intractable crisis rocking the PDP as a fall of the party’s presidential primaries which produced Atiku Abubakar, as Candidate.

Atiku’s emergence had triggered complaints of lopsidedness against the South in the composition of the party’s current leadership.

The three top positions of the Presidential Candidate, the National Chairman and the Chairman Board of Trustees were occupied by the North.

Some leaders of the party loyal to the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, have also demanded the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, Iyiorcha Ayu, who insisted that he would not resign.

The Network gathered that some leaders are also insisting that the National Chairman should also resign for equity fairness and balancing.

It was however gathered that leaders defending Ayu insisted that the timing is not okay for his resignation ahead of the 2023 elections.

On Thursday Jibrin voluntarily stepped aside on Thursday, at the ongoing PDP BoT meeting in Abuja.

According to him, the decision was to ensure that the PDP candidate, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, wins the 2023 election.

It was gathered that his resignation was to woo the southern leaders to support the candidacy of the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
