FIRE GUTS POPULAR BALOGUN MARKET IN LAGOS

An early morning fire has gutted the popular multi billion naira Balogun market on Lagos Island.

The raging fire burnt 32 Balogun Plaza where ladies’ shoes are sold.

The fire incident was said to have occurred around by 8 am on Tuesday.  

Fire service authorities had not stated the cause of the fire incident as the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, firefighters from two divisions of Lagos Fire Service had been deployed to the scene to quench the fire.

Operatives from Lagos State emergency responders, comprising Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Nigeria Police and other security agencies were on ground to combats the fire.

The Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, told journalists  that the situation had been brought under control as at 10.30 am.

”The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is currently attending to a Fire outbreak at the famous Balogun Market which involved the topmost floor of a five storey building.

“The Fire is however under control as mitigation are on to limits it spread.”

A recent fire incident occured in the market, destroying  goods worth billions of Naira in the inferno.
