FG Files Fresh 20 Counts Charge Against Emefiele

Federal Government on Tuesday, filed fresh charges against the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, after it withdrew the charge of illegal possession of firearms filed ealier.

Director of Public Prosecutions, Federal Ministry of Justice, Mohammed Bakodo Abubakar, had approached the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, with an oral application asking for the withdrawal of the earlier charges.

The withdrawal of the initial charges was sequel to the outcome of its further investigations on the ex-banker chief.

Abubakar, however, explained that the fresh charges of 20 counts had been preferred against Emefiele at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

Abubakar disclosed this on Tuesday, while addressing Journalists after the Tuesday’s proceedings.

Recall that Emefiele was on July 25, arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on “illegal possession of firearms” at a federal high court in Ikoyi, Lagos.
