Chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and former secretary of the party in Cross River State, Dr. Ntete Bassey Duke, and 50 other party members on Tuesday dumped APC and defected to the Labour Party.
Duke, alongside other APC chieftains in the state including 50 other supporters, registered with Labour Party.
The decampees were recieved by the state chairman of LP, Ambassador Ogar Osim in the presence of other members of the state executive of the Labour Party.
Ntete was a former Buhari Campaign Director-General in 2015.
He said APC is gradually dying adding that it was impossible to bring the party back to it’s old self.
“I had to look elsewhere from APC because as it is that party is steadily crumbling.
“I doubt much that that party will be able to recover with the way things are going,” he said.
He commended the leadership of LP at the national and state level for giving Nigerians an alternative platform to excercise their fundamental rights.
He said LP is a party where many Nigerians who feel disinchanted with the system in their parties can find solace and contribute their quotas to national development.
The state chairman of the LP, Ambassador Ogar Osim, while welcoming the decampees, thanked Ntete and his supporters for joining a great party and promised them that LP is the democratic platform Nigerians are yearning for.
He urged them to work hard for the party, stating that with the mass registrations being recorded daily in the party in the state, that they are going to spring positive surprises during the general elections next year.
