•••BEEF UP SECURITY NATIONWIDE

The Nigeria Police Force high command on Sunday, raised the alarm over the spreading and circulation of alleged fake election results on social media, and other news platforms, urging the people to wait for the official results of the Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly.

The NPF said contrary to the policy and guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), some individuals have been circulating fake news on social media.

The Force Public Relations Officer, FPRO, Abuja, CSP, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Sunday, said it perceived the trend as a calculated attempt to heat up the polity, and possibly create post elections crisis.

The Police described the act of publishing fake news as a “disservice, unpatriotic, and a disinformation”.

The Police  warned  those who are spreading the alleged fake election results to desist from such mischievous acts and wait patiently for INEC’s official results, which would be  authentic and tenable.

According to the statement, Nigerians should remain calm, and go about their lawful engagements, urging those who are expected to go to the polls today, to be orderly and law-abiding.

FPRO assured Nigerians that the Force has re-enforced security strategies for the smooth conclusion of the 2023 General Elections.

It was gathered that security has been beefed up nationwide, ahead of the official declaration of results by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

It was learned that the Chairman of the INEC, Prof. Manhood Yakubu, requested security to be beefed up due to the spate of attacks on electoral officials, its facilities, mass stealing of ballot boxes and attacks of BVAS machines in some areas

INEC Chairman made the request because of cases of security breaches and the need to prepare for the official announcement of the winners of the elections so as not to be caught unaware.
