Diezani Alison-Madueke Charged to Court for Bribery in the UK

The authorities of the United Kingdom have charged a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, to court for  alleged bribery.

Alizon-Madueke is expected to  appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on October 2 to face corruption charges.

The British police on Tuesday, accused the former minister of accepting bribes while awarding multi-million-pound oil and gas contracts between 2010 and 2015 when she held sway as minister.

The UK police said that the flamboyant minister got about 100,000 pounds in cash, chauffeur driven cars, flights on private jets, luxury holidays for her family, and the use of multiple London properties.

Reuters reported that Diezani Alison-Madueke, benefited  from monetary gifts, furniture, renovation work and staff for the properties, payment of private school fees, and gifts from high-end designer shops such as Cartier jewellery and Louis Vuitton goods, the NCA said.

“We suspect Diezani Alison-Madueke abused her power in Nigeria and accepted financial rewards for awarding multi-million-pound contracts,” said Andy Kelly, Head of the National Crime Agency’s (NCA) International Corruption Unit.

“These charges are a milestone in what has been a thorough and complex international investigation.” The police said
