Court strikes out Priest’s Appeal Against Police, Awards N10,000 Cost to Applicant

The Anambra State High Court sitting in Umunze has strucked out an Appeal filed by Rev. Fr. Ejike Nwankwo and his lawyer, Bar. Chukwu Kingsley Idenyi, who were earlier arraigned by the police in the state.

The Appeal emanated from their criminal trial at the Chief Magistrate Court Umunze,  for alleged offences of assault, malicious damage and stealing made against them by one Mrs Nnenna Ezenwa

The Commissioner of Police Anambra state, had arraigned Nwankwo and his lawyer at an Umunze Chief Magistrate Court on 12 count Charge over the alleged offenses.

However, Nwankwo and his lawyer, who pleaded not guilty to all the charges, appealed against their criminal trial in Suit No. HOS/1CA/2022.

After hearing the parties to the suit, the Court presided over by Hon. Justice Jude Obiora, struck out the appeal.

Emmanuel Osunkwo appeared for the first Applicant, C. K Idenyi for the 2nd Applicant in person and P.A Ogele for the Respondent.

According to the Court “This appeal is hereby struck out, cost of N10,000.00 (Ten thousand Naira is hereby awarded against each of the applicants in favour of the respondent. 

“The said cost must be paid to the respondent before any other or further steps is taken in this matter.”
