The Bayelsa State Police Command in Yenagoa, on Saturday, arrested 39 year old Esther Otoniye, for allegedly burning the buttocks of her 10-year-old stepdaughter, with a hot knife.
The Network gathered that Otoniye, was apprehended at her residence in the Akenfa, Yenagoa, where she committed the henious crime.
It was gathered that the Commissioner of Police, Ben Okolo, ordered Otoniye’s arrest following a barrage of complaints against her by some women and Child Rights Groups.
She, however, denied burning the primary three pupil’s buttocks with a hot knife, claiming that hot water accidentally poured on her bum.
The suspect told the police in her defence that the little girl lied against her.
The step mother was said to have seared the little child’s buttocks with the burning knife for allegedly lying against her.
When The Network saw the little girl, there obvious òf marks from burns inflicted on her by the arrested woman.
The Gender Desk at the State Police Command in charge of the case had taken the little girl to the Police Clinic for examination.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa Command, SP Asinim Butswat, confirmed the arrest of Otoniye for the alleged crime.
He added that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID).
“It is a case of a stepmother, who used a hot knife to inflict bodily injuries on a 10 years old stepdaughter. Investigation is ongoing.” He said.
