BUHARI TASKS NEW CAN PRESIDENT TO DEVOTE HIS TENURE FOR RELIGIOUS UNITY

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, tasked the newly elected President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel Okoh to devote his tenure towards fostering religious unity and harmony in the country.

The President through Buhari in statement by his spokesman, Femi Adesina congragulated, Okoh, the General Superintendent of Christ Holy Church (Odozi-Obodo), on his election as the President of CAN.

According to the statement, the President described the election of Okoh by CAN, as a testament of Okoh’s devotion to the Church of God in the country and beyond.

He also stated that Okoh’s election is a distinguished vocation as a Christian leader and abiding commitment in promoting ecumenism and inter-faith dialogue is required from him.

The President acknowledges the role of CAN in nation building, especially in fostering religious unity and harmony.

Buhari stated in the statement that he is of confidence and hope that the incoming President would continue to provide the needed leadership for the Church, affirming the Scriptural truth: ‘‘that they all may be one.’’ (John 17:21a)

According to the President, his interactions in the past with CAN leadership, have been of great values, counsel adding that the spiritual contributions of Christian leaders to nation building has been encouraging, advising, strengthening, correcting and criticizing those in authority.

He prayed for the successful of the tenure of Okoh, in his new stage of ministry, praying that it would be marked with success, urging the blocs that make up CAN to kindly give the cleric every needed support to excel.

The President wished the former CAN President, Rev Dr Samson Olasupo Ayokunle best wishes in his spiritual and secular endeavours.
