President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday swore in Justice Olukayode Ariwoola in as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
The swearing ceremony precedes weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa.
Present at the events were the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, the Governor of Oyo State Seyi Makinde, and his Ondo State Counterpart, Rotimi Akeredolu,
The roll called also includes Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha; Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan; Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Bambari and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Maj. Gen. Babagana Monguno (Rtd).
The new CJN who spoke to State House Correspondents after his swearing-in ceremony, promised to introduce reforms at the Supreme Court.
Justice Ariwoola urged politicians in to allow the judiciary to function in accordance with expectations as the 2023 elections draw nearer.
The Oyo State Governor, Makinde thanked the President on behalf of the people of State.
Among ministers who attended the weekly FEC meeting are Hadi Sirika (Aviation); Olorunnimbe Mamora (Science, Technology and Innovation); Chris Ngige (Labour and Employment); Abubakar Malami (Attorney-General and Justice); Niyi Adebayo (Industry, Trade and Investment); Babatunde Fashola (Works and Housing); Abubakar Aliyu, and others.
The FEC observed a minute silence in honour of the memory of a former Minister for Special Duties and National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Vincent Ogbulafor, who died recently in Canada
