•••SAYS I CANNOT WAIT TO RETURN TO DAURA

•••I HAVE LEFT BEHIND A LEGACY OF FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he cannot wait to relinquish power to return home after running the country for eight years.

Buhari spoke while delivering his last Sallah message at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Friday.

He described himself as favoured to have provided leadership in various capacities as governor, minister, head of state and President.

“I can’t wait to go home…I deliberately arranged to be as far away as possible from you people. I have got what I have asked and will quietly retire to my home town in Daura.”

Earlier, Buhari in his Sallah urged the Muslims all over Nigeria not to forget the important lessons of the Ramadan, which according to him, include improving the bond with the underprivileged and poor members of the society.

The President made the observation in his goodwill message to Muslims on the occasion of the Eidel kabir celebration to mark the end of the 30-day Ramadan fasting season.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, reminded the Muslim faithful on the sacrifice of the Ramadan fast, and congratulated Muslims on the successful completion of the demanding spiritual obligation.

He prayed to Allah to reward the Muslims for their sacrifices during the fasting season.

According to him, “abstention from food and drinks during the fasting period had made it possible for us to appreciate the situation of those who go without eating every day…

According to Shehu, the President Buhari said the peaceful outcome of the 2023 general elections “will go down on  record as one of the proudest achievements of my administration in addition to our neutrality in the conduct of the elections.”

Shehu stated that President Buhari explained that “the outcomes of the elections were in line with his pledge to leave a legacy of free and fair elections.

“I’m proud that I have created a level playing field for all contestants regardless of party affiliation in order to produce a fair outcome for all.” He said.

According to the President, “free and fair elections are the only principles that give credibility to our democracy, because the subversion of the will of the people undermines democracy itself.”

“The elections were so transparent that even members of the my own party were routed and unseated. At no point did I interfere with the process in order to give unfair advantage to anyone,” the President added.
