BREAKING: Jibrin Barau Emerges Deputy Senate President

The senator-elect representing Kano South, Jibrin Barau, has emerged as the Deputy Senate President.

He emerged unopposed.

Earlier a former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, was elected President of the Senate.

Akpabio defeated Zamfara West Senator-elect, Abdul’aziz Yari, in the election for the President of the 10th Senate on Tuesday morning.

Akpabio garnered highest number of votes out of the 109 votes cast.

Akpabio (CON) born 9 December 1962 is a Nigerian lawyer and politician.

 He served as minister for Niger Delta Affairs from 2019 to 2022. He resigned on 11 May 2022 on the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari to contest in the presidential primaries of the All Progressives Congress.

He previously served as governor of Akwa Ibom State from 2007 to 2015

Barau emergence followed his nomination by the former Governor of Ebonyi State and senator-elect, David Umahi (Ebonyi South).

A member-elect (Kwara North), Salisu Mustapha, supported the nomination.

He accepted the nomination without opposition and emerged as the Deputy Senate President.
