BREAKING: Gunmen kidnap Anglican priest in Anambra

The Vicar of St. James’ Anglican Church, Ichi town in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State, under the Diocese of Nnewi (Anglican Communion), Venerable Ekene Remigius Iroanusi, has been kidnapped by gunmen.

The abduction of the priest occured on Thursday, June 23, 2022.

According to reports, the priest left a funeral ceremony at Nnewichi village, Nnewi town when the incident occurred.

It was gathered that the kidnappers intercepted him along the road within Uruagu village.

Also, Mr. Justice Anyanwu, a church worker who accompanied him to the funeral service was also abducted.

At the time of filing this report, the kidnappers are yet to open any form of communication with the family of the priest.

The Anambra State Police Command Spokesman, Ikenga Tochukwu, said he did not have any such information.
