The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPC) Mega Station along Ikot Ekpene Road in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, has been razed down by fire on Wednesday evening.
It was gathered that the fire started by 5Pm, on Wednesday and destroyed a mini-bus and four out of the 16 dispensing pumps at the station.
Also affected by the fire was the roof housing the pumps.
The Akwa Ibom State Fire Service, Officer, identified simply as Ekamba said no life was lost, adding that the firefighters were able to put off the fire before it could spread.
He explained that the State Fire Service would carry out investigation on Thursday to ascertain the cause of the fire.
However, a witness, disclosed that the fire started from the pump suction nozzle that was dispensing petrol to a mini-bus.
He said the mini-bus owner, a commercial transport operator fled for safety during the incident.
Also, another witness hinted that most of the fire extinguishers brought out by NNPC station workers had long expired.
