The Senator representing Bayela West  on Wednesday organized a massive rally for the re-election bid of Gov Douye Diri for a second term in office.

Senator Dickson who was the immediate past Governor of the State visited his country home of Toru Orua to be part of the campaign rally for Diri’s reelection in the Senatorial district.

Thousands of Peoples Democratic Party supporters and loyalists of the former Governor turned out in an unprecedented manner to receive the former Governor and the Governor.

The supporters organized a boat regatta known as Ama Aru at the River Forcados which carried the two political figures, the Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ehwrujakpo from one end of Orua to the Governor’s jetty.

The political event brought to an end months of speculation that the former Governor and his successor are nursing political differences.

Senator Dickson was categorical in his opening remarks at the event that there was not rift between him and Diri.

He said that everything is in place for Diri’s victory in the next gubernatorial election.

“I can see that the coast is clear. From the eyes of an experienced hunter, l can see that your current hunt will be very successful.”

He told the cheering crowd that the pattern of the campaigns was not different from 2019 when he told the Gov to feature as the face of the campaign.

Senator Dickson said that he was happy that Governor Diri who he was accused of imposing has become a good product to everybody. 

He said that the visit of the Governor to Orua showed in clear terms that the Governor remembered how he started the political process in 2019.

“When l endorsed Senator Diri in 2019, all hell broke loose. But today, l am very happy that the Diri they said l imposed on them has become a good product for Bayelsa.

“The visit of the governor and his entourage demonstrates that a man who starts hunting in the thick forest, started from somewhere and this visit shows that he had not forgotten the road from where he got into that thick forest.” He said

Dickson assured the teeming supporters that Diri victory in the November 11 election would come easily.  

He commended the Diri’s Campaign Team for the massive mobilization of party members and supporters for the anticipated victory of the People’s Democratic Party in the forthcoming election. 

He advised political parties and their candidates to ensure sustenance of the peace in the state. 

Speaking also Governor Douye Diri thanked Senator Dickson for his sustained political support.

He stressed that there is no rift between him and his predecessor.

He said that the Governor had always been with him in political mission.

He said: “For the benefit of anybody who is in doubt about the relationship between I and Senator Dickson, l want to make it clear that there is no rift between us. I am sure beyond reasonable doubt that he is with me.”

Senator Dickson and the Governor, his deputy and his entourage had earlier paid a courtesy call on the the Pere of Tarakiri, King Seiyifa Koroye, at his palace in Toru-Orua to receive royal blessings from the traditional rulers from the district. 

The political leaders and supporters also observed a minute silence in honour of the late former Speaker of the old Rivers State House of Assembly, Chief Thompson Okorotie, who was Ekeremor PDP Caucus chairman.
