Anambra state government has sealed off Gally Gally Hotel, Nkpor, Idemili North Local Goverment Area of the state where underaged girls were used as sex slaves, prostitutes and baby producers for sale.
Commissioner for Culture, Tourism and Entertainment, Don Onyenji made the disclosure in Awka on Thursday.
He said the ministry had gone to the hotel and discovered that the location did not qualify to be called a hotel because it didn’t meet the criteria for the classification.
Onyenji said that the place was not certified and licensed to operate as a hotel in the state, adding that it is also not captured in the government’s list of hotels operating in the state.
“It is an illegitimate hotel located in a remote place and a reason for illicit and all forms of criminal activities therein,” he said.
Onyenji further disclosed that the state government have conducted their checks on the hotel and that some arrests have been made at the location while the government still keeps an eye on the facility while it is sealed.
He, however, revealed that there is a strategy in place to revalidate all the hotels in the state to ensure they are operating with license, legally and equally standardize the tourism industry which include making sure their operations meet global standards.
