Assumption: New ACG Correctional Service Pledges Eradication Of Indiscipline Among Officers

Ope Fatinikun, the new Assistant Controller of Corrections (ACG) at the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Zone A in charge of Lagos and Ogun States, has pledged to eradicate indiscipline among the officers.

Mr Fatinikun made the pledge when he paid an unscheduled visit to Ikoyi Prisons in Lagos, early on Friday morning.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Fatinikun assumed office today, Dec. 20.

He is taking over from the Acting Assistant Controller of Correctional Service (NCoS), Taiwo Atoyebi, who was appointed as acting ACG after erstwhile ACG Ben Rabi Freedman was suspended on grounds of alleged corruption.

The ACG issued a stern warning to officers to avoid indiscipline, urging them to work professionally in accordance with the ethics, conduct and commitment of the service.

“Under my watch as the new ACG NCoS, in Lagos State, indiscipline will no longer be tolerated.

“We must restore and bring back the glory of the correctional service.

“Henceforth, any officer who gets to work late and dresses indecently will faced disciplinary action,” he said.

Mr Fatinikun, who inspected all the wards and departments in Ikoyi Prison, assured inmates who are awaiting trial, and had not been to court for more than three months, of prompt attention.

According to him, all the old traditions of the service will be brought back to reposition the NCoS.

The ACG commended the Federal Government for its recent promotion of officers as well as its promise to pay their arrears.

“For those inmates who have not been taken to court, I will table your matter before the Attorney-General and the Governor for regular attention.

“Henceforth, there must be general parade at the prison every Monday and ACG parade on Tuesday.

“On Wednesday, there will be disaster and fire drills by fire service instructors and lectures on Thursday in accordance with our tradition,” he said.

NAN reports that some officers were caught and sanctioned for lateness and indecent dressing during the ACG’s unscheduled visit.
