ANAMBRA SOUTH LGA BOSS OPERATES FROM EXILE

•••MOVES GOVT BUSINESS TO NNEWI NORTH OVER INSECURITY

By Kamsi Anayo, Awka

Then Chairman of  Nnewi-South local Government Area of Anambra State has said that he now runs the council from the headquarters of the neighboring Nnewi North Local Government Area.

The Council Boss who spoke on his  development plan for the area on Sunday, regretted that he was currently operating from the Nnewi-North council headquarters as a result of the ongoing  reconstruction works at its secretariat, Ukpor.

Aniagboso said that the council had suffered destruction especially the burning of the headquarters at Ukpor and destruction of properties worth millions of Naira by the hoodlums.

He assured that the council area will bounce back from the wanton destruction by hoodlums under the guise of unknown gunmen.

According to him, Nnewi-South local government with ten communities was worst hit by insecurity.

“I believe strongly that Nnewi-South will set the pace for others in rural development in the state.

“The local government headquarters was set on fire by hoodlums on two separate occasions and severally Divisional Police Stations were also destroyed in the area,” Aniagboso said.

He added several vehicles belonging to the police and the Anambra State Vigilante Group were also burnt and destroyed.

“Some members of the vigilantes equally had their houses burnt by criminal elements and innocent lives lost in the heat of the mayhem.

“However, the situation has drastically improved and public safety returned as people now live normal lives devoid of panic and phobia.

” Gov. Chukwuma Soludo has shown commitment in tackling insecurity not just in Nnewi-South but the entire state. Nnewi-South is relatively calm now and the governor should be commended,”

Aniagboso said.

He lamented that Nnewi-South and other councils in the Anambra South senatorial zone had been entry and exit points for hoodlums, but delighted that the governor has mobilised security operatives to reclaim the communities.

“The situation was so intense such that the hoodlums were running the communities as a merchandise, but the governor extended an olive branch to the hoodlums asking them to cease fire and choose peace.

“They chose war and the governor unleashed war on them, setting Nnewi-South and the entire Anambra-South free from the captivity of the outlaws.

“The  area is set to embrace the plans and visions of the state governor, having also planned short, medium and long term programmes to ensure we emerge the best local government in education, health, infrastructure, environment, agriculture and other sectors,” Aniagboso added.
