AKEREDOLU TRANSMITS POWER TO DEPUTY, LEAVES FOR MEDICAL ATTENTION ABROAD

The Ondo State, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, on Tuesday, transmitted power to his deputy governor in a letter he wrote notify the State House of Assembly that he was on leave authorizing his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, should act as governor.

This was coming after weeks of pressures from different quarters in the party and the state following his serious Ill health for some time now.

Mr Akeredolu had not been in public domain and in his office for several weeks, which indicated the fact that he has serious health challenges.

Meanwhile, the government has refused to disclosed the ailments of Mr Akeredolu but said and he would seek treatment abroad.

The Speaker of the House, Olamide Oladiji, in a statement, said Mr Akeredolu embarked on the 21-day leave for medical treatment abroad from 7th June and that he would be away until 6th July.

Oladiji stated that the letter, spelt out that the leave would extend to the 6th of July due to public holidays on June 12 (Democracy Day) and Eid el Kabir (28th and 29th June.

The Governor  directed his Deputy, Hon.Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to act as the Governor, while away, has assured of his resumption on the 6th of July, 2023.

The Speaker described the governor as a lover of peace and an apostle of the rule of law, while wishing him a speedy recovery and a joyful vacation.

Recall that the opposition parties, made up of the Social Democratic Party and the Peoples Democratic Party, had demanded that the governor transmits power to his deputy in line with the provisions of the Constitution due to his health challenges.

Some of the governor’s aides had admitted that the governor was indisposed.

This condition and absence from duty led to political intrigues and a division in his cabinet, significantly impeding decision-making.

It was gathered that some elements within the cabinet were uncomfortable with the deputy governor taking over  power as acting governor.

According to reports, those close to the governor were said to be working against the deputy governor from assuming the acting role as stipulated by the constitution.

There were accusations of the deputy governor being a wife beater an allegation he was said to have denied, stating that the allegations were coming from his detractors.
