Some gunmen numbering eight have abducted a cousin of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Mike Ogiasa, at Otuabagi in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The Network gathered that Ogiasa was abducted from his residence at his country home of Otuabagi on Thursday.
He was a former Commissioner for Special Duties in charge of Federal Projects in the state.
It was gathered that Ogiasa who was also a Special Adviser on Power to Chief Henry Seriake Dickson, is the convener of Voice of the South South, a socio cultural group involved in the push for the former President to join the race for the presidency in 2023.
It was further gathered that the family delayed informing the police when the incident occurred in anticipation that the kidnappers would call them to demand for ransom.
However, the family became apprehensive 48 hours after his abduction as the kidnappers made no contact with them to demand any ransom contrary to expectations.
A community source said that the politician concluded a meeting and was resting in his house when the gunmen struck and took him away.
“Nobody anticipated what happened. He attended a meeting and was to return to the state capital, Yenagoa but he was persuaded to pass the night.
He was in his house when the gunmen came and took him away.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Command, SP Asinim Butswat, confirmed the abduction of the former President’s cousin.
Asinim said that a combined team of the police and other security agencies has commenced investigation into the crime.
Gunmen had abducted a cousin of the former President Jephthah Robinson In Yenagoa on January 24, 202. He was later released on February 7.
