Adebanjo Laboured For Generations Yet Unborn – Ogun Former Gov

News Investigators/ Sen. Ibikunle Amosun, a former governor of Ogun, says late Chief Ayo Adebanjo laboured and fought for generations yet unborn.

Amosun said this during a condolence visit to the family of the late Yoruba leader, who passed on Friday in Lagos at the age of 96.

According to him, Adebanjo knew he would not benefit from some of the things he stood and struggled for.

Amosun said that Adebanjo continued to speak loudly on what he believed in till he breathed his last.

“These are people that are labouring and planting trees that they definitely knew they were not going to sit under their shades when matured.

“Every day, you would see him (Adebanjo) agitating for this and that, knowing he was not going to be a beneficiary of all of those things that he was fighting for.

“It is for those that are around and the children,” Amosun said.

Amosun commended Adebanjo’s untiring efforts to seeing that Nigeria actualised the dreams of its founding fathers.

The former governor said that Adebanjo had so many legacies that those coming behind must learn from.

He said: “Baba was not bothered to stand alone, He would not be perturbed that he was the only one expressing a conviction.

“Once he is convinced about any right thing, he would care less about whether other people were with him or not.

“He was always ready to take a cause and fight it alone,” Amosun said.

He commiserated with the entire Adebanjo family, friends, Afenifere, the Yoruba race and lovers of democracy that he stood for.

Meanwhile, Most Rev. Michael Fade, the Bishop of Remo Anglican Diocese and Archbishop of Lagos Province, also led a team of clergymen on a condolence visit to the deceased family.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Friends, family members and Afenifere chieftains have been visiting Adebanjo’s Lekki residence since his death was announced Friday on afternoon.
