ADAMAWA STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY BOILS OVER DEFECTION

The Adamawa State House of Assembly has been set on commotion as 13 members of the Peoples Democratic Party lawmakers declared vacant the seat of the member representing Michika constituency Mr. Joseph Kwada, who defected from PDP to APC.

The PDP lawmakers allegedly sat on Wednesday for few minutes before declaring the dear of Mr. Joseph Kwada, who defected from PDP to APC, vacant.

It was gathered that all the 13 members of the PDP went into hiding and adjourned to August 2023, to avoid Court injunction as the All Progressive Congress APC declared legal war on the members.

In a statement on Wednesday, the APC Publicity Secretary Mohammed Abdullahi, said the “kangaroo decision” of the 13 PDP lawmakers cannot go unchallenged in a Court of law.

The Chairman House committee on Information Mr.Kefas Japhet, told journalists that the decision of the 13 PDP members was based on the provisions of the Constitution.

The Adamawa State APC, spokesman, while responding to the matter, said that the action is a sign that the ruling party is on its way out of Yola Government House.

According to him, the decision is not only unlawful, but also a desperation to retain power come 2023.

He stated that the process was questions concerning personal interest of the Speaker in a case he has no legal authority to preside over it.

”When APC lawmaker Musa Umar Bororo decamped to PDP on the floor of the House , the speaker hug him and thanked him, there was no problem, when another member from African Democratic Congress ADC decamped ,there was no problem why is the situation of our member different?.

“If he committed any offence, the Party should approach court not PDP lawmakers,” He said.

Meanwhile, the Governorship aspirant of Social Democratic party SDP, Dr. Umar Ardo, has asked the Speaker, Aminu Abbas, to resign, adding that he lacks the moral latitude to continue as the leader of the Adamawa Assembly.

According to Abbas in a statement in Yola, the Speaker showed desperation and abuse of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He stated that the House needs 2/3 of the members to suspend any member from the Assembly. According to him, the house has 25 members, stressing that the Assembly needs 17 members to attend the sitting before critical decisions would be taken.
