•••OPPOSES ‘MISPLACED AMBITION OF INDIVIDUAL DO-OR-DIE POLITICIAN’
•••SAYS COMMON SENSE WILL PREVAIL
The First Lady, Hajia Aisha Buhari has advocated the emergence of a female deputy Governor in Adamawa State as a gradual step of actualizing gender Justice in the politics of the State.
The first Lady’s position however conflicts with the All Progressives Congress, female guber Candidate in Adamawa State, Senator Aishatu Binani.
The First Lady in a post on her Instagram page called on the elders of the North to emulate what she described the exemplary practice in the South West where women are enthroned as deputy governors as a gradual means of ensuring gender inclusion in politics.
The First Lady stated that giving the deputy governorship position to women is the most realistic step in gender inclusion rather than the support of a desperate politician with a misplaced ambition.
“In the name of Allah, I wish to thank Adamawa State APC Leaders for the courtesy visit they paid on me, on
November 18, 2022.
“As an indigene of the State,
a mother, a Grand Mother and the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I would like to reaffirm my support for the genuine concern of our party leaders, as well as COMMIT TO STEPPING INTO THE PROBLEM so that reason and common sense will prevail in Adamawa politics.
“I would again like to repeat my appeal to respected leaders in the North to learn from the exemplary practice of their Southwest counterparts in enthroning women as Deputy
Governors in states as a gradual approach to obtaining gender inclusion in our polity.
“This is a most realistic step in our efforts at attaining gender justice instead of supporting the pursuit of the misplaced ambition of an individual do-or-die politician.” She wrote
There are media reports, the First Lady is backing the pioneer Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
The senator representing Adamawa central, Aishatu had defeated Nuhu Ribadu, and Jibrilla Bindow, former governor of the state, to win the governorship primary of May 26.
Binani had scored 430 votes to defeat her closest opponent, Ribadu, who polled 288 votes in the election.
But Ribadu challenged the outcome of the APC governorship primary citing alleged irregularities, and demanded for fresh primaries at the Federal High Court, Yola which annulled the election.
However, the Appeal Court in Yola, Adamawa, on Thursday declared Sen. Aishatu Binani as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the state.
