The National Emergency Management Agency has said that a total of 23 persons were rescued from the rubbles of the collapsed three-storey plaza in Gwarimpa, Abuja.

The NEMA Head of Operations, Austin Uwazuruonye, made the disclosure to TVC Continental Early Morning Programme, Your View.

He said that media reports that over 50 people were under the rubble was not correct as the figure was not up to that.

He complained about difficulties encountered by emergency response workers who are in some cases attacked and prevented from gaining access to such scenes to render service.

He said that those who were rescued were take to the hospital who have readily treated them because of a standing agreement between NEMA and them to treat patients from disaster scenes.

He expressed deep reservations on the tendency to attack emergency response workers on the assumption that they arrived late at the scene.

He stressed that no reasonable person would prevent  emergency responders from doing their job.

He said he got a call around 12 and NEMA mobilized to site in less than an hours.

He urged Nigerians to call NEMA call Centre at the Headquarters in Abuja on 112, 122, and 08032003555.

He said that the call Centre in Abuja will coordinate response activities with all the zones across the country.

Three people died and over 40 were believed to be trapped in the rubbles of a collapsed three-storey building at 6th  Avenue, Gwarimpa, Abuja.

The structure was a three-Storey shopping mall near Charley Boy Area at Galadinma, Gwarimpa.

The Federal Housing Authority has attributed the collapse of a three storey structure at Galadinma, Gwarimpa, Abuja to approved plan violation by the developer.

The FHA said that the developer was granted  approval for two floors but added an extra floor to the structure.

The Head, Public Affairs of the Federal Housing Authority, Mr Kenneth Chigelu, made the assertion in a statement on Thursday.
