ABDUSALAMI, JONATHAN, KUKAH BAG PEACE AWARDS

The former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, and former President Goodluck Jonathan have been conferred with the prestigious National Peace Award 2022

Also honored with the award were Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah; the Esama of Benin Kingdom, Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion; HRM Eze Williams Ezugwu Eze Ogbozara III of Opi Kingdom, Nsuka and former President of Ghana, Dr. John Mahama.

Others were Attorney-General of the Federation, and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN; President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Yakubu Maikyua, SAN, and Chief Paul-Harris Ogbole, SAN.

Some other eminent recipients who bagged the awards include, Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo; Minister of State, FCT, Dr Ramatu Tijjani; wife of the Chief of Army Staff, and Mrs Salamatu Yahaya.

Also recognized were members of the media sector, as two of its ambassadors; the President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Chris Isiguzo, and the Chairman of its FCT chapter, Emmanuel Ogbeche, were equally honored with the prestigious award.

Speaking at the event ceremony, the former President of Ghana, Mr. Mahama, emphasised the need for peace as a catalyst for economic and political development.

Mahama, was represented by Dr. Hanna Bishaw, the Women Organising Leader of the NDC of Ghana and President of ECOWAS Forum of Political Parties.

According to her, Nigerians needed peace to collectively catapult the country to a greater height.

The National President of the National Peace Award, Dr. Sulieman Adejoh, in his earlier remarks, congratulated the awardees and called on Nigerians to be committed to their various endeavors.

The National Peace Award is a yearly ceremony, where honours are bestowed on outstanding Nigerians from various walks of life for their contributions towards instilling sustainable peace and development in the nation.
