Embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, has fingered the Indigenous People of Biafra and the Eastern Security Network as two bodies that are targeting his reputation.
A Police report quoted Kyari as having made the claim while appearing before a police panel led by Mr Joseph Egbunike, a Deputy Inspector General of Police, which was set up to probe his alleged relationship with convicted internet fraudster, Ramon Abass alias Hushpuppi.
Kyari now in custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, said that the two secessionists bodies fighting for the independence of Biafra are out to destroy him because of his onslaught on them in the South East.
“It is a campaign to smear his reputation by members of IPOB/ESN who moved to destroy him due to his onslaught against them in the South-East.” The report quoted him as saying.
However, the panel which was dissatisfied with the claim recommended Kyari’s demotion by a rank from Deputy Superintendent of Police to Assistant Commissioner of Police.
The police report also showed that Hushpuppi and his accomplices paid the sum N235, 120, 000 to Kyari’s younger brother.
It was also stated that Kyari paid N44m into the bank account of his younger brother.
This was before the NDLEA arrested the erstwhile Commander of the Intelligence Response Team at the Force Intelligence Bureau of the Nigerian Police Force, for alleged involvement in a 25 kilograms Cocaine deal on Monday.
The NDLEA is still interrogating the DCP and four other officers of the Nigerian Police. The police officers are ACP Sunday J. Ubua; ASP Bawa James; Inspector Simon Agirgba and Inspector John Nuhu.
