The Theatre Commander, North East “Operation Hadin Kai”, Maj.-Gen. Christopher Musa, has said that over 79,000 insurgents have so far surrendered to troops of the Nigerian Army.

Musa who spoke during a press briefing in Maiduguri said that those who surrendered comprise combatants and non combatants

He attributed the mass surrender of the insurgents to the new ‘kinetic and non kinetic approach’ to the ongoing campaign against insurgency.

He commended the public for its support and urged them to sustain it to ensure a speedy end of the crisis.

Musa said that the mass surrender had culminated in the need to have new camps in Maiduguri to sort out the combatants from the non-fighters.

“We are really happy with the way the members of the public were cooperating with us; they see the sincerity in what we are doing.

“We are committed to the human rights charter and the rules of engagement in our operations,” Musa said.

In his remarks, the General Officer Commanding ( GOC), 7 Division, Maiduguri, Maj.- Gen. Waidi Shuaibu, said that the troops also rescued three Chibok girls during the period

He gave the names of the rescued girls as Falmata Lawan, Asabe Ali and Jinkal Yama, wiry serial number 3, 12 and 20, respectively on the list of abducted Chibok girls.

He said that girls were rescued separately in Bama axis on Aug. 30, Sept. 1 and Sept. 2 .
