Three South West governors under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, on Friday paid a surprise visit to the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike in Rivers State.
The governors mainly referred to as Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s boys are Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State.
They were joined in the visit by a former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose who is a close ally of Wike in the PDP.
The Network gathered that the visitors were in Rivers State to persuade the
aggrieved Wike to join APC ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The meeting which was held behind closed doors, took place at Nyesom Wike’s residence.
Though the details of the closed-door meeting was not disclosed but it was gathered that the APC is taking advantage of the fall of the PDP Presidential primaries and the faulty politics of the selection of a running mate for the party’s candidate to push for Wike’s defection.
The Network gathered that Wike might not leave the PDP because of his commitment to the party’s gubernatorial candidate in Rivers State, Fubara Siminayi, the State Accountant General who he wants to install as his successor.
Wike, lost out to the PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar during the the party’s presidential primary.
He was expected to be picked as the running mate to Atiku but that wasn’t done.
He is expected to team up and support the party’s candidate but feelers from the Rivers State is saying that Wike is on his way out of the PDP.
Wike is still nursing the wounds of betrayal by the Southern Governors and delegates and the party leadership for not zoning the presidency to South.
