2023: Gov Ortom’s Convoy Involved in Accident

Three serving members of the Benue State House of Assembly, including four security personnel on the convoy of Governor Samuel Ortom to campaign rally have sustained heavy injury when the convoy of the governor, was involved in a  motor accident.

The incident occurred on Friday morning when the governor and the Peoples Democratic Party supporters were traveling to Igumale, headquarters of Ado Local Government Area in continuation of the party governorship campaign rally.

Our correspondent who witnessed the situation, reported that the incident occurred when the driver of a branded bus fully loaded with PDP supporters lost control and rammed into three vehicles; a Sports Utility Vehicle, a security vehicle, and another bus in the convoy.

Some State lawmakers including that of Guma and Kwande West representative in the state assembly were injured.The incident which happened at exactly 10:50 am on Friday also affected other vehicles.

The motorcade in the convoy consisted of the state’s deputy governor, Engr Benson Abounu; Senator Abba Moro; House of Representatives members, and House of Assembly members from Benue South district; among other top government and party officials in the state.

An ambulance attached to the convoy evacuated the injured persons to the general hospital Igumale while the rest continued with the journey.

GOV ORTOM SYMPATHIZES WITH PDP MEMBERS INVOLVED IN ACCIDENT

Meanwhile, Governor Samuel Ortom has sympathized with members of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP who were involved in a road accident on their way to Igumale, Ado Local Government Area for the ongoing Statewide campaign rally.

Governor Ortom who described the accident as unfortunate expressed appreciation to God that it was not fatal and there was no casualty recorded.

The Governor who spoke shortly after he visited the General Hospital, Igumale where the victims were being treated, directed that they be moved to Otukpo and Makurdi for greater medical attention.

He used the moment to caution all drivers on the campaign train to exercise caution while moving in convoy.

Among those injured were Hon. William Ortyom, member Benue State House of Assembly representing Guma State Constituency, Hon. Geoffrey Agbatse of Gwer-East State Constituency and Hon. Sugh Abanyi of Kwande West State Constituency.
