The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, has said that the 2023 election will not be about religion or tribe but about character and competence in leadership.

Peter Obi stated this on Monday in Lagos at the ongoing Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference.

According to him, the country’s woes have gotten so bad that the 2023 election would not be about religion or tribe but about who has the character and competence to deliver the country from its current mess.

“Nigeria is in a mess. We got here simply because of the accumulative effect of bad leadership.

“The coming election is not about tribe or religion but about character and competence. We need a bold transition from a highly secured state to a highly secured state.”

The four major contenders, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, New Nigeria People’s Party’s Rabiu kwankwaso, and Vice Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Kashim Shettima attended the event.

The presidential candidate of APC, Bola Tinubu, was conspicuously absent at the event which took place at the Eko Hotels, Victoria Island, Lagos State.

The arrivals of the politicians attracted attention but that of the LP candidate, Peter Obi, was highly hailed by his supporters with thunderous applause and standing ovation.

A video of how the former Anambra State Governor, Obi was cheered by the crowd at the conference is currently trending on social media.
