2023: Anambra CP Warns Political Actors Against Violence

Less than 72 hours to 2023 electioneery campaigns, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Echeng Eworo Echeng, has warned political actors against violence, and assured the participants of conducive electoral environment in the state.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the commencement of electioneering campaigns by all political parties from Sept. 28.

Echeng gave the warning in a  exclusive interview with The Network in Awka on Tuesday.

He advised political actors to subsume their campaigns within extant legal frameworks, “avoid actions or speeches that could inflame the political order and above all, cooperate with the police in our drive to guarantee a peaceful electioneering process.”

According to him, Federal Government is bent on conducting credible, free and fair election without violence.

“I advise politicians to play by the rules to be able to achieve the mandate and vision of Federal Government,” the CP said.

He urged the electorate not allow anybody to use them or act to disturb the process, while guaranteeing a crime-free and enabling environment for political campaigns and other components of the electoral process.

“The police is ready to ensure law and order is maintained throughout the period. The police will not fail in its duties to maintain law and order and anybody who goes out against the law will be handled legally,” Echeng said.

He said the last election in Anambra was certified the best so far in the country.

“We did it before, we should do it again peacefully, Anambra state desire the best. Don’t allow them to use you in the guise to mar the process” he said.

He also called for the support of the good people of the state to make the exercise credible.
