Niger Delta Affairs Minister Senator Godswill Akpabio has resigned to pursue his ambition to become Nigeria’s next President.
Akpabio’s resignation was confirmed to the Media by his media aide, Jackson Udom on Wednesday.
He said that Akpabio has tendered his resignation letter to the Secretary to the Governor of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.
Akoabio’s resignation followed a few hours after President Buhari gave a deadline of May 16, 2023 to ministers with political ambitions to resign their appointments.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, conveyed the President’s directive while briefing State House Correspondents at the end of Federal Executive Council m, presided over by President Buhari.
The ministers affected by the order are Ministers of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; Niger Delta, Godswill Akpabio; Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige; Science, Technology and Innovation, Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba; Justice and Attorney General, Abubakar Malami, the Governor of Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele, who have joined the presidential race on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Others are the Minister of State Mines and Steel, Uche Ogar, who is running for governorship position in Cross Rivers State, the Minister of Women Affairs, Paulline Tallen, who declared her ambition to contest for the senatorial seat in Plateau State.
So far, while the nation expects the resignation letters yo be rendered in their numbers, the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba and Akpabio are the only ministers who has responded to the President’s directive.
