The 19 Governors of the party have agreed to support President Mohammadu Buhari’s consensus candidate ahead of the party’s National Convention fixed for March 26, 2022.
The Chairman of the Interim Committee of the party and Governor of Yobe State, Mai Bala Buni, led other governors to the meeting.
The chairman of Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) and Governor of Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu, said the Governors will support any decision that would lead to a consensus.
The Governors, rising from their meeting with the President on Wednesday, said they have accepted the President’s choice, especially on the Chairmanship position.
Through out last month, APC stalwarts and leaders of the party were in a battle over the leadership of the party, leading to doubts about the possibility of the national convention of APC, which holds this March 26th.
President Buhari had last month, told APC leadership and members that he was in favour of the consensus candidates for the party’s national positions.
