16,614 Candidates Write TRCN Professional Qualifying Exams

No fewer than 16,614 candidates have participated in the Batch ‘B’ Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) conducted by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) across the country.

The Acting Registrar of TRCN, Stella Nwokeocha, who disclosed this while monitoring the examination in one of the centres in Abuja on Saturday, noted that the process has been smooth, nationwide.

Mrs Nwokeocha warned that any candidates caught engaged in any form of malpractice would be stopped from continuing the exam.

“The 2024 qualifying exams is so seamless because we have a mobile app that we use for accreditation.

“By the time the exams are concluded, we will have professionalised teachers who are competent and equipped with the right knowledge and skills to effectively carry out teaching and learning in the classroom,” she said.

She also urged the government to discontinue its policy of non-funding of the TRCN , an assist the council tby paying workers salaries.

For his part, the Director of ICT, Federal Ministry of Education, Abubakar Isah, who represented the Permanent Secretary, Dr Nasiru Sani-Gwarzo, praised TRCN for conducting the examination in a seamless manner.

“The exam is to examine teachers and we are proud to say that the examination is well organised and peaceful,” he said.

Also, Jacinta Ezeahurukwe, the Director of Certification and Licensing at TRCN, highlighted the commission’s efforts to improve the examination process.

Mrs Ezeahurukwe explained that an app to detect impersonation had been introduced for accreditation purposes.

She added that the commission is gradually transitioning to a fully online registration system by continuously improving its processes each year.

“In the past, we manually assigned numbers to candidates, but now the process is automated, with the computer generating candidates numbers,” she said.
