The President of Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan, has given reasons why the National Assembly could not pass  the 2023 Appropriation Bill submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari to the National Assembly as planned.

The Senate President said that budget was submitted late and is replete with errors.

The Senate President blamed the non passing of the budget on the executive which according to him presented the budget late with errors such that the Appropriations Committee could not complete work on the budget report.

The President of the Senate who made the revelation on Thursday during plenary said that both chambers of the National Assembly had cleaned the perceived errors in the budget on Wednesday and would reconvene to pass the harmonized budget on December 28, 2022.

He explained that the National Assembly which had earlier scheduled to pass the budget could not do so because of the errors and would sit again for the purpose of passing it on December 28.

The Senate had gone for an executive session after plenary for about 15 minutes before Lawan made the disclosure.
