Black market booms, as fuel scarcity Persists in Ibadan, Oyo environs

Premium Motor Spirit otherwise known as petrol is being sold at N215 per litre in somearts of Oyo state, as fuel scarcity bites harder.

About 60 percent of fuel stations including those of major marketers are under lock despite the assurances given by the National Chairman of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers branch of NUPENG, Comrade Sulaiman Akanni Oladiti.

Oladiti, in a telephone interview with an Ibadan based radio station disclosed that some of the fuel stations in Ibadan metropolis have started dispensing fuel.

He said some stations that are under lock are yet to get supply from the NNPC depot.

However, our correspondent during a fact finding mission discovered that some of the stations that deliberately decided not to sell because they are anticipating increase in pump price.

This development has forced commercial drivers on the road to increase their fares.

It was gathered that intra and Inter state transport fares have also been increased by 100 percent.

Also, four litres of PMS at the black market now goes for between N850 and N1,000 depending on the area.
