NLC KICKS OFF NATIONWIDE PROTEST OVER HUNGER IN LAGOS, ABUJA, KANO, OTHER CITIES 

 The Nigeria Labour Congress has besieged the streets of Abuja to start the planned nationwide protest over the biting economic hardship in the country.

Simultaneous protests took place in all state capitals across Nigeria in what the NLC describes as hunger protests.

The foremost labour centre defied security warnings to embark the on the nationwide protest after last minutes efforts by the government to stop the protest failed last night.

As early as 7am, labour leaders and members gathered at the NLC’s headquarters in Abuja where they mobilized workers for the first day of the two-day warning strike.

The workers led by the NLC President, Comrade Ajaero later lived to the National Assembly.

Ajaero who spoke to journalist at the National Assembly said that the protest is not about just the minimum wage but about hunger in the land.

The organized labour  issued a 14-day nationwide strike notice to the Federal Government on February 8, citing the failure to implement agreements reached on October 2, following the removal of the fuel subsidy.

Labour leaders have expressed deep worry over the stifling hunger and general hardship in the country and urged the Federal Government to take steps to address the situation.

In Lagos, the members took to the streets  to protest against the increasing economic hardship in the country.

 Many members of the NLC were seen singing and dancing under the bridge at Ikeja.

The protesting workers are calling on the Federal Government to take immediate steps to stop the high cost of living in the country.
