The Supreme Court has nullified the Peoples Democratic Party Senatorial primary election for Imo West won by Mr. Jones Onyerere.
Justice Emmanuel Agim who delivered the judgement on an appeal filed by Hon. Nnamdi Ezeani, ruled that the PDP grossly violated Section 87 (9) of the Electoral Act by conducting the primary election outside a venue contrary to the provisions of the law.
Justice Agim held that Section 87 (9) of the Election Act was clear on where such elections should take place.
He urged political parties to adhere strictly to the provisions of the law in all their activities.
The Supreme Court ruled the PDP out of the senatorial elections for Imo West having failed to produce a candidate for the zone during the stipulated time for candidate nomination which has lapsed.
