Flooding: NEMA Donated Relief materials to Victims in Bayelsa

The National Emergency Management Agency distributed relief materials lworth millions of Naira to communities affected by the flooding in the area last year.

The items include bags of rice, groundnut oil, beans, tin tomatoes, garri and others.

The Agency also donated household items such as blankets, mattresses, mosquito nets and beddings.

The items were presented to community leaders in the area by representative of the National Emergency Management Agency, Mr Dahiru Yusuf and the wife of the House Representative Member, representing Southern Ijaw, who represented him at the event, Mrs Bridget Oseke.

Oseke who thanked the Federal Government and the emergency agency for the donation, promised to ensure effective distribution of the materials to all affected communities.

The lawmaker stressed that the items would be distributed to all affected families irrespective of party affiliation.

He stated further that he would take the cost of their transpiration to all the target communities in the mainly river rine Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

In his remarks, NEMA’s Head of Operation in Benin, Mr Dahiru Yusuf, said in Yenagoa, that the distribution was carried out based on the agency’s assessment of the affected communities in Southern Ijaw, LGA.

He said that the items were provided by the Federal Government to alleviate the effect of the flood on the inhabitants of the affected communities.

“It’s an assistance from the Federal Government, to flood victims of 2021, from Southern Ijaw communities.

“There are communities in that area that was seriously affected, we heard of it and we went for an assessment, most of them loss their food items.

“So, this is an assistance from the federal government, to cushion what they have loss during the flooding period,” he said
