Passengers have complained about the leaking roof of the ‘D’ of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.

One of the passengers who identified himself simply as Humphrey described the leakage of the airport roof as a national embarrassment which should be attended to immediately.

He said a lot of air travelers were shocked on Thursday when a heavy downpour led to the shutting down of the entire Section D of the terminal building which was covered by rain water.

Desperate Airport officials had deployed all manner of basins to collect the rain water dripping from the leaking roof.

The Network gathered that the Federal Airport Authorities of Nigeria  was compelled to shut down the Section to prevent passengers from falling and getting injured or even getting electrocuted.

It was learnt that all passengers who were to board the early morning Qatar Airline’s Lagos to Doha  were diverted from the D Section to the less affected Section E for boarding.

The airport officials  were also said to have put off electricity in Section D as part of the efforts to prevent unsuspecting passengers from moving into the area.

The source said, “There is a shocking and embarrassing development at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos. You need to send your men there to this place anytime it rains.

“On Thursday, there was a heavy rainfall and the rain water covered the whole of Section D of the Airport building. The whole place was taken over by water from the rain.

“Initially, the airport staff used plastic basins and bowls to collect the water from different spots in the roof but when it became too much, they had to shut down the entire Section D.

“Passengers on the Qatar Airways International  flight from Lagos to Doha were directed to Section E for boarding.

“This is a national embarrassment. It is shameful and should be corrected urgently. He said

Similarly, the passengers on Virgin Airline flight from Lagos to Atlanta were also diverted to the Section E for boarding because of the embarrassing development.

The Spokesperson of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, Faithful Hope-Ivbaze, did not pick the calls placed to her mobile telephone.

Our correspondent also sent a text message to the FAAN Spokesperson on Saturday but she had not responded to it as of the time of filing this report on Sunday.
